    About Us

''The Greater Detroit Chapter was organized in 1939 and has been performing and producing annual barbershop concerts since 1940.

Based in Royal Oak, our current 20-member mixed chorus meets at 7pm on Tuesdays at Royal Oak Middle School, 709 N Washington Avenue (entrance #6, between the pool & main building, downstairs in the choir room). With several quartets and the full ''Harmony United'' mixed chorus, we are very active in the community, presenting acapella and barbershop harmony entertainment throughout the year at various local events and venues. We welcome all with a love of singing to join us and be a part of this fun activity and tradition!

Our chapter is a member of the regional Pioneer District and the International Barbershop Harmony Society. Each Spring our chorus competes for the district chorus championship and each Fall for the right to represent the Pioneer District in International Chorus competition. The Greater Detroit Chapter has nationally registered quartets who also compete, as well as provide entertainment for a variety of functions across Metro Detroit.

As a part of our mission, we engage in community service projects in conjunction with other local businesses and service organizations to lift up and foster love of music in our membership and our greater community.''
